OlaBola The Musical lived up to its campaign tagline “LUAR BIASA” when the hit musical bagged 8 awards at the 16th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards last Sunday.

OlaBola The Musical’s 8 awards include Best Direction (Tiara Jacquelina), Best Choreographer (Adzwani Sani & Stephen Rahman-Hughes), Best Original Score (Mia Palencia & Altimet), Best Performance by an Ensemble, Best Performer in a Leading Role (Brian Chan), Best Set Design (Raja Malek), Best Lighting Design (Ee Chee Wei) and Best of 2018.

The show received 10 nominations in 9 categories including 2 nominations in the Best Performance in a Leading Role category.

“I feel euphoric. To be able to have been awarded this honor is a true privilege. I’m lucky enough to have amazing parents, they have been very supportive with my journey as an actor from the very beginning and I work hard every day to return the favor someday. Winning this award is the first step of many steps to come in returning the favor and to tell them that I love them.” said Brian on winning his first Cammy.

“To my OlaBola family, I thank you for your finesse, dexterity, passion and love we’ve all collectively poured into this amazing show. We lived up to the taglines #luarbiasa and #icoveryou.”

This was also the first Cammy for co-recipient of the Best Original Score Award, Award Winning Rapper and Songwriter Altimet. “I’m very grateful. God is great. Thank you God, Mama, Me & my Enfiniti family.”

On his winning the Best Choreographer Award, co-recipient Stephen Rahman-Hughes said “I’m so proud of the commitment and willingness of our boys and ensemble who worked so incredibly hard and boldly took a leap with Adzwa and myself. The effort everyone put in to tell such a wonderful story through a movement language that we worked so hard to achieve. We couldn’t have done it without every individuals tireless effort. It was an absolute joy to have worked alongside so many gifted performers and so much fun to have had the privilege to work on the OlaBola vision with such an awesome creative team. I love you all and my humblest thank you for your recognition.”

Among the Technical Awards received by OlaBola the Musical at the 16th BCAA was for Best Lighting Design. “I am honored and humbled to be receiving this award. Thank you Kakiseni. A heartfelt thanks to Enfiniti – to Tiara, for the continued support and opportunities over the years. I would also like to take this time to thank my mentors, who have been integral in the building of my foundation in the arts. As they always say – monkey see monkey do. I guess I was blessed with having the best to learn from.” said recipient Ee Chee Wei.

“Last but not least, this award is dedicated to my late mother, without whom I will not be the person I am today. She always said – soar high but keep your foot on the ground and always remember the reason you chose to do this – your passion. Thank you mum, for always believing in me. Thank you.”

OlaBola The Musical was a directorial first for Enfiniti (M) Sdn Bhd’s Chief Dream Maker, Tiara Jaqcuelina, this year’s recipient of the Best Direction Award. “Winning Best Direction on my first outing as a director is something I’ll never forget for the rest of my life.”

On winning the Best of 2018 Award, Tiara says “As the saying goes, it takes a village - and with OlaBola The Musical, it took about 200 people behind the creation of the show, on stage, backstage, even above the stage, all working in harmony and unison, to deliver each cue and each magical moment with military precision. I didn’t get the opportunity to give an acceptance speech at the awards, so I'd also take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone whom I cannot possibly name, the unseen wira-wira Luar Biasa who have contributed to the success of OlaBola the Musical.”

It's wonderful to see the effect of Olabola the Musical on everyone who came to experience it. We set out as a team to tell this story with as much truth as we could, so the love and appreciation of our audiences is more than we could have asked for.

I hope the story of Olabola will continue to be told again and again, so that new audiences can experience it and be inspired to create that great Malaysia once again.”
