Make a statement and express yourself this Raya with Nala’s festive fashionwear collection which features bold prints and beautiful Malaysian-inspired patterns that the brand is known for.

For the first time, the homegrown brand has designed an extensive Raya range of tailored baju kurung, kebaya and sarong which comes in a wide selection of unique, hand-designed patterns with many prints and colours to choose from.

Duly committed to its Malaysian heritage, the meticulously hand-drawn patterns pays homage to not only the country’s varied cultural backgrounds but also flaunts elements inspired by local flora, fauna and vintage motifs and the latest collection is no different.

The patterns featured in the Raya collection is inspired from Malaysia’s tea and coffee drinking culture which took root from the days when merchants from around the world sailed to our ports. Aptly titled “Kopi Teh”, the collection pays tribute to this heritage with patterns inspired by floral designs from porcelain cups as well as lattices and intricate tilework of the olden day kopitiam, and named after different types of our favourite teas.

“Inspired by my surroundings be it nature, architecture or the country’s rich heritage such as the local kopitiam and the tea drinking culture from teh tarik and masala tea to cha, every one of my patterns have a story to tell. Nala brings a contemporary take on patterns from the past, with each hand-drawn design filled with soul to appeal to all walk of life and is ageless,” said Lisette Scheers, creative director and founder of Nala.

Made from a selection of light cambric cotton for cool comfort and 100% cotton satin for a luxurious feel for all day visiting, the baju kurung (RM399) is available in 8 patterns while the kebaya (RM199) and sarong (RM299) are sold as separates to be mixed and matched as desired. With purchase of over RM500 from the “Kopi Teh” collection, customers will receive a complimentary set of Nala Raya packets specially designed for the festivities.

The Raya collection is available at Nala’s Kampung House in Bangsar, its outlets at ROBINSONS SHOPPES @ Four Seasons Place and Bangsar Village II, and online at www.naladesigns.com and www.fashionvalet.com

Nala has come a long way since opening its doors in 2008, where it has evolved from paper craft offerings and fabrics to a growing range of apparel, fashion accessories and home furnishings that have become the stalwarts behind Nala’s expanding reputation. To date, Nala also has presence in France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cambodia and Thailand.

NALA SETS OUT ON A SUSTAINABLE JOURNEY

Plying a unique combination of art, fashion and environmentalism

The company is embarking on the greener route by opting for a sustainable shift in their production and moving toward mindful living. As part of the Zero Waste Movement, Nala is taking steps to recycle left over fabrics into toys, gifts and a host of practical items.

Putting that into perspective, the brand has introduced its bunny soft toy, nalapinou, made entirely out of waste fabric. The name was derived from combining Nala with “lapinou” which is the French nickname for “lapin” which means rabbit. Nalapinou truly embraces the spirit of childhood while respecting the environment and its inhabitants.
