Come Take A Walk Down Madras Lane at Lorong Fest!

You are warmly invited to join us at Lorong Fest from 29 November to 1 December! The fun-filled weekend will feature live performances, film screenings, a photo exhibition, arts and crafts workshops, and of course – delicious food – at Downtown Kuala Lumpur’s Madras Lane. Join us as we transform the wet market and open-air car park into a celebration of culture, history, and food!

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, Madras Lane was the entertainment hub of Kuala Lumpur. Home to the iconic Madras Theatre, Madras Lane was where KL-ites flocked to watch the action-packed Chinese films, unforgettable Westerns, and epic love stories of the era. Though the theatre was sadly lost to a fire in 1979, Madras Lane continues to bear the theatre’s name, paying homage to the legendary establishment.

Forty years on, the area remains popular for its delectable hawker food and bustling wet market. As part of the Laneway Improvement Programme, Think City, DBKL and Citi Foundation are now working to introduce Madras Lane’s rich heritage to new audiences to encourage a sustainable and vibrant local economy. Lorong Fest is just one component of a holistic and ambitious plan to revitalise Kuala Lumpur’s many historic laneways, turning them into comfortable and attractive public spaces for people from all walks of life to enjoy.

Come experience the smells of intermingling local hawker food, lively performances, enjoyable activities, and nostalgic films.

Whether Lorong Fest will be a nostalgic walk down memory lane or venturing into new and unexplored territory, we hope you’ll join us for a wonderful time at Madras Lane!

Lorong Fest will run from 3pm to 10pm on 29 November, and from 10am to 10pm on 30 November and 1 December.
